While Samsung is the proverbial king of the hill when it comes to foldable smartphones, the competition isn't too far behind. TCL, in particular, has been pushing the envelope when it comes to foldable displays. We've seen its tri-folding tablet in action not too long ago, followed by the three-in-one device that folds and rolls, aptly called the Fold n' Roll. Now, Twitter user Fold Universe has stumbled upon the latter in real life.

Previously, TCL has only described the Fold n' Roll's functionality via a press release. We can now see its prototype in all its foldable glory, and prima facie looks like a garden variety foldable phone. However, it soon expands into an 10-inch tablet from the initial 8.5 inches, albeit slowly. The screen is said to have a resolution of 5,120 x 1,0 pixels. It is also HDR1000 compliant, has a response time of 1ms and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour spectrum.

While these specs are par for the course for most high-end displays, TCL takes it a step further. The screen can dynamically adjust its refresh rate between 8Hz and 20Hz. So far, we're yet to see any modern-day smartphone/tablet panels operate at that frequency, and it'll be interesting to see how TCL manages to pull it off. Unfortunately, we may have to wait for a long time before the tablet sees the light of day. After a concept device, it is unlikely to be mass-produced anytime soon.
